• Notes

  In the later part of the reign of Queen Elizabeth, Duncan Campbell, son of Dugal Campbell of Inverary, and an officer in the English army, went from Scotland to Ireland. In the year 1612 forfeitures of large estates were declared in Ulster, some of the forfeited lands being bought by Duncan Campbell. In 1726, John Campbell and Mary Campbell, two of his descendants emigrated to America. John Campbell, with his wife and children, first settled in Pennsylvania, moving from Lancaster County, about 1730, to Virginia. Mary Campbell, his sister, married Moses White, from which marriage many families of the southern and western part of the country are descended. source: Lee, Henry James.
